A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to enter his defence, if he so desires, in his ongoing trial over the alleged unlawful interception of the telephone communications of National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik gave the order while ruling on a no-case submission filed by El-Rufai, which the court dismissed.
The judge held that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence to warrant calling on the former governor to defend himself against the allegations.
The dismissal of the no-case submission means El-Rufai is required to open his defence if he chooses to do so, rather than have the case dismissed at this stage.
The case concerns allegations that El-Rufai unlawfully intercepted Ribadu’s telephone communications. The allegations remain subject to determination by the court.
