Singer Patoranking has expressed deep disappointment over Nigeria’s electoral system while praising the peaceful conduct of the recent US midterm elections.

In a post shared on X, the father of two pointed out the stark contrast between the two nations’ political processes. He noted that nobody died during the American polls and there were no reported incidents of ballot box snatching. The singer added that Nigeria’s systemic challenges have gotten so bad that citizens have normalized accepting bad behavior as standard practice.

Midterm elections in the United States are general elections held near the midpoint of a president’s four-year term. Held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, the midterms see voters decide on federal offices including all 435 seats in the US House of Representatives and 33 or 34 seats in the US Senate. Additionally, 34 of the 50 US states elect their governors to four-year terms during this period, while Vermont and New Hampshire elect theirs to two-year terms.
