Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has urged the people of the South-East to adopt a more strategic approach to politics, arguing that the region cannot achieve lasting economic prosperity by remaining politically isolated.
Kalu made the call on Thursday in Umuahia, Abia State, while inaugurating members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in the state at the International Conference Centre.

Addressing party leaders, stakeholders and members from across the state, the Deputy Speaker urged the Igbo to apply the same strategic thinking they have used to expand their businesses and economic influence to their political decisions.
He cautioned against allowing sentiments to dictate political choices, stressing that the South-East must actively participate in national decision-making.
“We cannot build a prosperous South-East in isolation from a prosperous Nigeria. The South-East must be present wherever decisions affecting Nigeria’s future are being made,” he said.
Kalu also highlighted what he described as President Bola Tinubu’s commitment and goodwill towards the Igbo, contrasting the administration’s approach with those of previous governments.
He said democracy required leaders to give an honest account of their stewardship before the electorate and seek the people’s mandate for the road ahead.
The Deputy Speaker urged Abians not to become spectators in a country they had helped to build, insisting that the South-East had a significant stake in Nigeria’s political and economic future.
“Nigeria is our nation, and there is no honour in standing alone. It is time to come together and vote strategically. There is no wisdom in waste; rather, there is wisdom in investment,” he said.
He further called on party members and supporters to rally behind Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, expressing appreciation to candidates, leaders, stakeholders and members who attended the inauguration.
Kalu said continued support for the President would enable the administration to sustain its Renewed Hope Agenda and deepen the impact of its policies and reforms on the lives and well-being of Nigerians.
