The African Democratic Congress, ADC, governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, has denied blaming former Governor Nasir El-Rufai for the worsening insecurity in the state.

Mr Ashiru described reports attributing the allegation to him as misleading, saying his comments during a television interview had been misconstrued.

The denial was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwaheed Olayinka Adubi.

According to the statement, the report misrepresented Ashiru’s position on El-Rufai and the security challenges confronting Kaduna State.

It said the comments attributed to the ADC candidate did not accurately reflect what he said during the interview.

Mr Ashiru expressed confidence that steps would be taken to ensure that the report accurately captured the content and context of his remarks.

He urged media organisations to exercise caution when reporting interviews and other public engagements, particularly on politically sensitive issues.

The ADC candidate warned that inaccurate reports could distort public understanding and undermine constructive democratic discourse.

He reaffirmed his respect for the media and its role in promoting accountability, strengthening democracy and keeping citizens informed.

However, he called on journalists and media organisations to uphold professionalism, accuracy and due diligence in their reporting.

Mr Ashiru is seeking to contest the Kaduna governorship election on the ADC platform amid political debates over security and governance in the state.
