Only three female candidates made the list of the 251 candidates contesting for the House of Representatives seats in Kano State in the forthcoming 2027 elections.
The figure is contained in the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) signed by its Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
The final list showed that male candidates dominated the contest with 248 candidates for the 24 available slots across the state’s Federal Constituencies.
The female contestants are Aisha Abba-Mahmud, a 28-year-old contesting for Dala Federal Constituency under the platform of the National Rescue Movement (NRM).

Halima Ahmad, a 58-year-old is contesting for Gwale Federal Constituency under the African Action Congress (AAC), while Binta Ahmad, a 27-year-old, is vying for Nasarawa Federal Constituency under the Action Democratic Party (ADP).
Similarly, only two women are contesting for the Senatorial election in the state.
The female contestants are Rabi Aliyu of AAC for Kano Central Senatorial District, and Jamila Muhammed of National Democratic Party (NDP) for Kano North Senatorial District.
The minimal female representation showed a sharp gender disparity in Kano state regarding the race into the lower and upper chambers of the National Assembly.
