The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the release of the abducted Kebbi State High Court Judge, Justice Faruk Hassan Bunza, after spending one week in captivity.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the Command said the judge, who was abducted from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area on July 26, 2026, regained his freedom earlier on August 3, 2026.
According to the statement, the Bunza’s release has been confirmed by both his family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice.
The Police disclosed that although the kidnappers demanded a ransom during the period of captivity, the Command maintained its firm position against the payment of ransom.
Following the judge’s release, the Police said they have intensified investigations in collaboration with other security agencies to identify, track, and arrest those responsible for the abduction.
The Command appealed to members of the public to support ongoing investigations by volunteering credible information, assuring that all information received would be treated with the highest level of confidentiality.
The Police also expressed appreciation to residents, partner security agencies, and other stakeholders for their cooperation and support throughout the rescue efforts.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kebbi State, the Command urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities through its emergency control room numbers.
