The Nasarawa State Government has asked the State Security Service, SSS, to investigate the disruption of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign rally in Lafia on Wednesday.
The Secretary to the State Government, Shuaibu Labaran, accused former governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu, of being linked to the incident.
Mr Labaran made the allegation in a statement following alleged misconduct by some youths during Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s visit to the state for the campaign rally ahead of the 2027 general election.
Mr Shettima had paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Lafia, who is also the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, as part of his engagements in the state.
The government said it regretted that the traditional homage, which the vice-president considered appropriate out of respect for the state’s customs and traditions, was allegedly disrupted by some irate youths.

According to the statement, the youths were suspected to have links with some prominent personalities, including Mr Al-Makura and Mr Adamu.
The government alleged that the incident was deliberately orchestrated to tarnish the image of the state government and the people of Nasarawa.
“This act of recklessness, deliberately carried out to show disregard for constituted authorities and the exalted office of the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is not only condemnable but unacceptable,” the statement said.
It directed the DSS to immediately investigate the incident, identify those responsible and establish whether there were sponsors behind the alleged disruption.
“Accordingly, the Department of State Services is hereby directed to immediately institute a full investigation to unravel the causes of the incident, the perpetrators and sponsors of the condemnable act and bring them to book to face the full wrath of the law,” Mr Labaran said.
The government urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while going about their daily activities.
