Troops of the Nigerian Army say they have killed three suspected kidnappers in Kogi State and recovered four AK-47 rifles, ammunition and other items.

The Army in a statement says the operation was carried out by troops of 21 Battalion Quick Reaction Force, alongside Kogi State vigilantes, during a search in Edimogbo Forest, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area.

The troops were reportedly pursuing suspected kidnappers from Edimogbo Forest towards Obele Forest when they made contact with the group.

The Army says the suspects attempted to flee but were engaged by troops, who killed three of them and recovered four AK-47 rifles, 12 magazines, 336 rounds of ammunition, three bandoliers and an identity card.

In a separate development, a suspected bandit, identified as Shehu Idris, surrendered to troops in Lokoja Local Government Area alongside his wife and two children.

The Army says Idris attributed his decision to surrender to sustained military operations and patrols in Agbaja Forest, which it says have restricted the movement of armed groups operating in the area.

One AK-47 rifle, four rounds of ammunition and a radio were recovered from the surrendered individual. He and his family are in military custody for further investigation.

The Army says operations are continuing to deny criminal groups safe havens and has urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies.
