Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has urged political parties and their supporters to embrace peaceful campaigns and issue-based engagements ahead of the February 6, 2027 governorship and State Assembly elections.
Otti made the call on Monday, November 2, during the flag-off of the Labour Party campaigns at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
The event also featured the inauguration of the party’s Advisory Council, chaired by former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ude Oko Chukwu.
In a statement via his X handle, the governor urged political actors to avoid personal attacks, intimidation and violence, stressing that electoral contests should focus on policies and development plans.
“As we begin this campaign journey, I urge all political parties, candidates and their supporters to embrace peace, civility and issue-based engagements. Elections should be about ideas, policies and the future we envision for our people, not personal attacks, intimidation or violence,” he said.
Otti also warned against attempts to restrict opposition parties from conducting legitimate political activities, insisting that public facilities should be accessible to all parties in line with established regulations.
“I have also reiterated that no opposition party or its supporters should be intimidated, harassed or prevented from carrying out legitimate political activities. Public facilities must remain accessible to all political parties in accordance with established regulations,” he said.
The governor said his administration’s campaign would focus on sustaining what he described as the progress recorded in Abia over the past 41 months.
“Our message to Abians is clear: the work of rebuilding our State must continue,” Otti said.
He listed infrastructure development, stronger public institutions, expanded economic opportunities and efforts to restore confidence in governance among the areas his administration had prioritised.
According to him, the next phase would focus on consolidating the gains and extending development across sectors while positioning the state to benefit from emerging economic opportunities.
Otti also thanked party leaders, candidates, supporters and other guests who attended the campaign flag-off, while expressing confidence in the newly inaugurated Advisory Council.
He called on Abians to assess his administration’s record and programmes ahead of the election.
“As we look towards the February 6, 2027 election, I invite Abians to engage with our programmes, examine our record, study our manifesto and participate actively in the democratic process,” he added.
