Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured residents of Uzere in Isoko South Local Government Area that his administration will ensure the operating company fulfils its responsibilities following an oil spill and gas leak in the community.

In a post on his X account, the governor said he inspected the affected sites on Friday, accompanied by the Commissioners for Oil and Gas and Environment, to assess the impact of the incident on residents.

During the visit, Oborevwori engaged with community representatives and the operating company, emphasising the need for accountability, timely intervention and continued dialogue.

Recalling the deployment of more than 100 medical personnel to Odidi, the governor said he had directed the Commissioner for Health to provide similar medical attention to residents of Uzere.

He also acknowledged the community’s peaceful disposition and disclosed that the company had commenced clean-up operations, which he said must be followed by remediation.

Oborevwori assured residents that the delay in addressing their concerns did not mean they had been denied assistance, explaining that necessary procedures were ongoing.

“The delay was not a denial,” the governor said, assuring the community that his administration would continue engaging stakeholders to ensure the company fulfils its responsibilities and affected residents receive the necessary attention.
