United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, has bid farewell to the UN Sustainable Development Group after chairing her final meeting with the organisation.

Mohammed described the experience as an inspiring journey, reflecting on efforts to strengthen the UN’s support for countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In a farewell message shared on X, she said the group had made significant progress in advancing collective efforts towards delivering on the global development agenda.

“A moment to reflect, as I chaired my final meeting of the inspiring @UN Sustainable Development Group family,” she wrote.

The Nigerian-born UN official, however, stressed that the work towards achieving the SDGs remained unfinished, urging continued commitment to the global development agenda.

“The journey of the unfinished business continues to keep the promise of the SDGs for people, planet and peace,” she added.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by UN member states in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with targets covering poverty eradication, quality education, healthcare, gender equality, climate action and economic development.

Mohammed has served as UN Deputy Secretary-General since January 2017, working alongside successive UN leadership to advance international cooperation and sustainable development.
