The Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO) has held a stakeholders’ workshop to finalise guidelines for setting water tariffs in the state, with emphasis on affordability, transparency and the financial sustainability of water service providers.

In a post on X, the Lagos State Government said the workshop was held on Wednesday, October 22, 2026, in collaboration with the Resilient Water Accelerator, WaterAid Nigeria, Aguaconsult, Mangrove & Partners and the Lagos Water Partnership.

The workshop brought together stakeholders in the water sector for technical deliberations on the proposed tariff-setting guidelines following months of consultations, reviews and engagements.

The Executive Secretary of LASWARCO, Barr. Oluwabukola Khadijah Adeyemo, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to strengthening water sector regulation and ensuring residents have access to safe, affordable and sustainable water services.

She said the partnership with the participating organisations was aimed at improving regulatory capacity, promoting pro-poor tariff structures and ensuring that water services remained accessible, particularly to low-income and vulnerable households.

Earlier, the Director of Technical Services at LASWARCO, Mr. Idowu Olowu, commended stakeholders and partners for their contributions throughout the consultation and review process.

He said the guidelines would establish a fair and transparent framework that balances consumers’ ability to pay with the financial viability of water service providers.

According to Olowu, the deliberations were essential to ensuring that water service delivery in Lagos aligned with global best practices, equity, affordability and long-term sustainability.

He added that the initiative was in line with the THEMES Plus Development Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

The commission said the guidelines, once operational, would improve transparency and accountability, strengthen investor confidence and enhance service delivery across the water value chain in Lagos State.
