Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped four places to 30th in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking released on Wednesday, following a disappointing international window.
The three-time African champions had occupied 26th position in the previous ranking but have now fallen to sixth place among African nations.
The latest ranking sees Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire move above Nigeria on the continental table, with the Super Eagles losing ground after a mixed run of results in their recent fixtures.
Eric Chelle’s side opened the international window with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
However, the Super Eagles were unable to build on that result, suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau before ending the window with a 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.
Nigeria had entered the latest ranking as Africa’s fourth-highest team, behind Morocco, Senegal and Egypt.

The rest of Africa’s top 10 comprises DR Congo, Cameroon, Mali and Tunisia.
At the global level, Spain retain the top spot, with Argentina, France, England and Portugal completing the top five.
Brazil, Morocco, Belgium, the Netherlands and Mexico occupy the remaining places in the world’s top 10.
