NHRC chair commends Kebbi’s infrastructure, education reforms

The Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Hajiya Salamatu Hussaini, has commended the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, for what she described as remarkable progress in infrastructure development, education and agriculture across the state.

Salamatu gave the commendation while receiving the Kebbi State Governor’s Media Team during a courtesy visit at her residence in Abuja.

She recalled her recent visit to Kebbi State with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi (SAN), for the commissioning of the NHRC state office, saying the quality of projects executed by the state government left the delegation impressed.

“I was privileged to go to Kebbi with the Minister of Justice to commission our Commission’s office. Together, we inspected the ultra-modern State Secretariat, and the commendation by the delegation made me proud,” she said.

According to her, the delegation also toured parts of Birnin Kebbi and was impressed by the transformation of the state capital.

“We also went round and saw the streets and the general ambience of the state capital, which impressed us. We came back feeling proud,” Salamatu applauded.

The NHRC chairperson said she was convinced that the Idris administration was making significant progress, particularly in the education sector.

She disclosed that her non-governmental organisation, the Alkali Hussaini Foundation, is partnering with the Kebbi State Government on capacity-building programmes for teachers aimed at improving the quality of education in the state.

Salamatu also praised the government’s investment in agriculture, noting that the distribution of free farming inputs to farmers had contributed to improving the livelihoods of residents.

“The support being given to farmers through free agricultural inputs is making a positive impact on the socio-economic well-being of the people,” she remarked.

The NHRC boss further revealed that discussions were ongoing with Governor Idris on the establishment of a manpower development institute that would focus on economic-related fields.

According to her, the proposed institute would be facilitated through the New Nigerian Development Company, where she serves as a member of the board.

Salamatu congratulated Idris on what she described as his “giant strides” in the last three years, expressing optimism that the administration’s development efforts would continue to benefit the people of Kebbi State.
