Wow, these evil theories are still in existence?!! As a young child growing up in the 80s in the village, I knew a lady who had a child with developmental delays. This child was about 3 years but couldn’t speak ,crawl, stand or walk. The mother was always carrying her on her back. After a while, nobody saw the kid anymore. When I asked, I was told the child was an animal who was tormenting the mother by refusing to develop. So it was returned back to the forest. Even as a 7 year old, I was troubled and worried that the child must have been crying when it was abandoned. The adult who was telling me this horrific story said no amount of tears should make the mother go back and rescue the child, but that the baby was shedding crocodile tears and that as soon as the mother was out of the scene, it would transform back into its original animal form. Sadly this belief was quite prevalent many years ago, even among Whites who referred to such children as Changelings. Thankfully this abhorrent practice is dying everywhere and soon will be forgotten. It’s a shame, this lady was so ignorant, thank God she was caught.
