Emeka Bahadur has emerged as the African Democratic Congress candidate for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Bahadur, who is based in the United States, emerged through a consensus arrangement adopted by members of the party during the selection process.
The motion for the adoption of a voice vote was moved by Chinweikpe Joseph and seconded by Sunny Nwagboo.
Speaking shortly after his emergence in Umuahia the Abia State capital on Thursday, Bahadur thanked party leaders, women, youths and stakeholders for their support.
“If given the opportunity to represent Ikwuano/Umuahia at the National Assembly, I will make the constituency and the entire state proud through purposeful, people-oriented representation,” he said.
He also commended the turnout at the event, calling it a “history-making moment” and a sign of the people’s commitment to the constituency’s future.
“What I have seen today makes me proud of the men, women, and youths who came out in their numbers to support this movement,” he told cheering supporters.
The announcement was met with chants and celebrations, with party faithful describing it as the start of a new political chapter for Ikwuano/Umuahia.
